Why we avoid them: There is documented risk of carcinogenicity. Some are banned in certain countries, while others remain controversial even at regulated doses.

*Nitrosamines can form from certain amines, amides, or acrylates.

Examples: Synthetic musks, phthalates, silicones (cyclic and non-cyclic), chemical UV filters, resorcinol, retinol derivatives, kojic acid, EDTA, triclosan.

Why we avoid them: They impact hormonal function, fertility, and ecological balance due to their persistence and bioaccumulation.

Examples: Nanomaterials, irradiated ingredients, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), microplastics.

Why we avoid them: We apply the precautionary principle. When there is no clear evidence of long-term safety, we prefer to leave them out.

Examples: Sulfates, synthetic dyes, aggressive preservatives.

Why we avoid them: They can cause allergic reactions or irritation, especially in sensitive skin or with repeated exposure.

Examples: Petrolatum, paraffins, propylene glycol, synthetic polymers.

Why we avoid them: They offer minimal benefit to the skin and pose a high environmental impact due to their non-renewable origin and low biodegradability.

Examples: Synthetic peptides, ethoxylated and propoxylated compounds.

Why we avoid them: Their synthesis requires highly toxic reagents and solvents, posing risks to worker health and significant environmental impact.
